Welcome: Announcements: Worship Update This Month As we have done in the past several years, we are designating October as “Evangelism Month.” This is a reminder that the Lord of the Church has given us, his believers, the great mission of proclaiming the gospel into all the world. That mission starts, of course, with those around us and in our community. Services in October Oct. 4/5– Evangelism Sunday God’s Word teaches us that sharing the gospel with those around us involves “making a connection that counts.” We will celebrate the Lord’s Supper in these services, and there will be a special children’s message, as well. Oct. 11/12 - Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost The Lord Jesus told his disciples, “Whoever is not against us is for us” (Mark 9:40), with the application that we are not to hinder those who are faithfully working for the Lord, Pastor Joel Thomford of Zion, Chesaning, the chairman of the Michigan District Evangelism Commission, will be our guest preacher for these services. Oct. 18/19 – Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost A Christ-centered message, Christian training, and Christian living begins at home. In the services this weekend, we will focus on the Christian family. We will celebrate the Lord’s Supper in these services. Oct. 25/26 - Festival of Friendship This special service will focus on the simple, eternal truth about the friendly help our Savior Jesus has given to all of us. We encourage all members to bring a friend to church with them. You and your friend are also invited to a reception hour, hosted by the Evangelism Committee, between the Sunday services. We will have a children’s message in these services, so children may invite a friend to come with them, also.News: Evangelism Bible Class During this Evangelism Month, we will offer a special three-week evangelism Bible class that encourages and helps you to “makes a connection that countc.” While we don’t want to discourage anyone from attending Mr. Falk’s Parenting class, we do encourage others to attend this one. These classes will be on Sundays, starting at 9:15 am. Here is a detailed look at what will be offered. · October 4- “Why Am I Living Here” (Connect with Your Community) · October 11- “How Can I Make a Difference?” (Connect with Your Life) · October 18- “What’s Involved with Sharing Jesus with Others?” (Connect with Your Faith) On October 25 we begin an eight-week course on World Religions. Parenting Bible Class Parents, when your child was born, did he come with an “owner’s manual?” Mine didn’t either, but there is help available. The best source of guidance for parents or anyone else is found in the Bible. There will be a new Bible class offered especially for parents. We will look at various issues with which parents have to deal: God’s plan for the parent’s role, control issues, needs and wants, health (spiritual, physical, and emotional), and many others. Applying God’s Word to these topics in a practical manner will be our main focus. We will also consider what other WELS leaders have written about the challenges of rearing children. In addition, there are practices and procedures we can learn from each other. Come to listen, share, and learn no matter what age your children are. We will meet on six Sundays at 9:15 starting September 27. We will skip October 11. This class will be taught by our Principal and 7th & 8th Grade Teacher, Mr. Michael Falk. Bible Information Class Once again we are offering a class that is a survey of the basic teaching of the Bible to help you know the Bible better and to see how we, in the Lutheran church, teach God’s precious truths. This class is a good review for members, but is especially helpful and necessary for those who are interested in membership. Pastor Schaewe will be leading this class, and he is looking at holding these classes on Wednesday evenings, 7:30-8:30 pm. When he gathers enough interest, we will set a definite starting date. You can help this process along by making your intention known to Pastor that you will be attending this class, or by filling out an application form in the church office. Sesquicentennial In less than five years we shall be celebrating our congregation’s 150th Anniversary. This is a big occasion, and we want to recognize it in a way that glorifies our gracious God. We will be needing a lot of help. If you would like to volunteer, see Pastor Schweppe. And please come forward with your ideas for this blessed occasion, which will be here before we know it!
