St. John's was founded in 1862 on the west side of Bay City, Michigan. It is served by Pastors Paul E. Schweppe and Paul E. Schaewe. We are one of the largest WELS congregations in northern Michigan.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The Bible:
The Bible is the Word of God. He inspired its writers, and so everything in the Bible is absolutely true. (2 Timothy 3: 16 - 2 Peter 1: 21 - John 17: 17)

Peoples Natural Condition:
All people are born sinful and continue to fall short of God's demand for perfection. No one can do anything to gain eternal life. Our sins condemn us. (Psalms 51: 5 - Romans 3: 23; 6: 23)
God's Help:
God, in his great love, sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to be perfect for us in his life and to suffer the condemnation for our sins by his death on the cross. Through Jesus' saving work, sinners are justified (made right with God) and have eternal life. (John 3: 16 - Romans 3: 22-24)
How we receive God's help:
We receive God's help by faith (believing that Jesus is God's Son, our Savior). We can not do anything to earn or deserve salvation. The Holy Spirit works this faith in people by the Gospel (the good news of Jesus Christ). (Acts 16: 30-31 - Romans 3: 28 - 2 Thessalonians 2: 13-14 - Romans 10: 17)
